How a Laser Printer Works
- Data streamed from a computer to the printer
- The corona wire creates a positive static charge on the photo receptor drum so that the drum has a uniform positive charge
- The circuit activates the laser which draws the image onto the drum
- An ink roller touching the photo receptor drum coats it with tiny powder (toner) which sticks to the roller because of the charge
- A sheet of paper is brought up from a hopper and is fed up towards the drum which is given a strong negative charge by another corona wire
- When the paper and the roller meet, the charges attract and the charged particles stick to the paper
- The paper pass through the hot rollers which applies pressure and heat fusing the powder to the paper permanently
- The printed paper is then dispensed
